These pdf files provide a look inside Mac's Abacus Basic, a Supplementary Early Math Curriculum developed by LearnTools Inc. Many are pages taken from the Teaching Guide section of our workbook.
Touring Mac's Abacus: This 4-page presentation is a great way to glean a hint of the curriculum's depth of coverage and how each Problem-Row in a Lesson is used to expand concepts. It highlights some of the main concepts and how they are developed: From First Counts, to Grouping Counts, Introducing the Numbers, Finger Counting,Concept of Zero, Addition using the “+” and “=” signs, Subtraction, Counting Lengths Heights & Time, Using Tokens as a lead-in to Money and to the Decimal System, Decimal Addition and Subtraction, and Using Money. download Tour Brochure
Lesson Planner: Our “Quick Reference Guide” lists each Concept in the workbook in the order it occurs, along with references to page numbers of both the Teaching Guide and Students Lessons sections. (Lesson Planner details here) or download Lesson Planner
Making Bead Patterns: Our set of first activities on Mac's Abacus, designed to build familiarity with our Curriculum in a FUN way ...kids love this! 1-page. download Making Bead Patterns
Counting Lengths, Heights and Time: By using each Row on Mac's Abacus as a separate Problem within the Lesson, we demonstrate how the lengths of these quantities are proportional to their value. We also show visually that there are often many ways to build a given value. 4-pages. download Counting Pages
Developing the Decimal System: We use the concept of a Token to lead into the notion of Place Value and to lead into an understanding the values we assign to Coins in our Money system. 4-pages. download Decimal System
Learning to Count Money: Once the Decimal System is learned, we use it extensively to count Money. This gives the student much practice in using the carry as well as a competence in recognizing monetary values of various coins and bills. 4-pages. download Counting Money
Using Money: These Lessons show the student how to purchase an object, given an “allowance” and how to compute their change. 1-page. download Using Money
Equivalence: 1-page. Pictorially shows that the Mac's Abacus structure is exactly equivalent to the place value structure of our Decimal System. When Money is being computed, the Dots separate the dollars (above Dots) from the cents (below Dots). download Abacus Equivalence
Teach your Child to Print Numbers and Letters with our Practice Numbers and Letters PDF file: It has 3 pages of Numbers, Upper and Lower case Letters for your child to trace. It was made using our own KidsFont a full-set open-type font, designed based on teacher's recommendations. KidsFont is available here to install on your computer and make your own practice exercises.
Counting Posters: Two 8 1/2 x 11 inch pages in high definition meant for printing and hanging on a wall (these are the back cover of our workbook). “First Counts” page presents the counts from 1 to 10: as Fingers, Digits, Objects and Beads. “Subtracting” page starts with 6 Bead then removes one at a time until Zero is reached. This is another way to present the concept of Zero. These are great references for Kids up to First Grade. (more details here) or download Counting Posters
